Motorcycle category (BIKES)
For the first time, two Russian motorcycle riders went to the start at once, and both of them successfully finished today at the checkpoint in Rio Quarto: Alexander Ivanyutin and, representing the Moscow Police team at Dakar, performed on Husqvarna motorcycles, which covered the race distance without significant damage. Ivanyutin showed his best result (22nd position) at the finish of SS5, one of the most difficult special stages, which was cut by the organizers due to extreme weather conditions in the mountains on the border of Bolivia and Argentina. Then, Sasha finished 23rd in the penultimate stage, on Friday, January 13th, thanks to which he secured 32nd place in the general classification. Nastya began her climb in the MOTO standings from 130th place and has reached the 75th position by now.
The official winner of the 2017 Dakar Rally Marathon in the motorcycle class is the British motorcycle racer, representative of the KTM works team, Sam Sunderland, and his team-mate Matthias Walkner became the 2nd. The podium was completed by Gerard Farres Guell from Spain, a representative of the independent HIMOINSA Team KTM. Thus, this year, the entire podium, without exception, was occupied by motorcycles from Mattighofen. Representatives from Yamaha, Honda and Husqvarna ranked 4, 5, 6 and 7 positions.
96 people out of 143 who started on January 2 from Asuncion, Bolivia made it to the finish line, and three of them were officially withdrawn from the race, since they did not finish SS11 on time (on Friday), but still reached the bivouac in Rio Quarto and were allowed to start by the decision of the management.

Here is absolute jubilation: 25-year-old Sergey Karjakin from Yekaterinburg triumphantly finished the race in 1st position. This is the first time in the history of Dakar when a Russian won a race in the "motorcycle" category. The ATV classification appeared only in 2009, when the rally-marathon moved from Africa overseas. Initially, this category was aimed at numerous amateurs from South America. The debut victory was won by the Czech racer Josef Makhachek. Then, for 5 years, the local drivers took the podium: the Argentines, brothers Alejandro and Marcus Patronelli won 5 races for two, one - Ignacio Casal from Chile, in 2015 the European, Pole Rafal Sonic won.
Sergey Karjakin made his Dakar debut in the QUAD class in 2014 and reached the finish line (7th) on the first try, winning one stage. The next year, due to a lack of experience in participating in such races, he dropped out of the fight due to a simple malfunction. In 2016, Karjakin confidently walked to the podium, but after the ambiguous decision of the commissioners, he lost the 3rd position literally the day before the finish, becoming 4th. This year, Karjakin won 3 stages, taking the lead in the general classification on the 4th day of the race, and starting from the first day of the second week, he never lost the position of the leader to the pursuers who were eliminated from the battle for victory one after another.

UTV category
New for Dakar ATV or SSV class for utility ATVs that have undergone significant sports training. Unlike buggy cars, UTVs do not have solid protection other than the roof, roll cage and windshield, so it is more difficult for crews to complete the route than in jeeps and buggies. At the same time, UTV is slower than nimble selfish ATVs. 10 crews were announced for the start, however, on the very first day of A.S.O. moved two of them into the CARS category: these small buggies were created on the basis of Suzuki cars, while according to the UTV regulations, they must be born utilities.
Of the 8 cars that remained in the standings, 4 were on the move to the finish line. In the UTV category, the Russian crew headed by Ravil Maganov entered the start, the navigator was Kirill Shubin. Team Xtreme Plus started the race with a victory in the prologue and recorded 3 more stage wins, however, lost 2nd place in the general classification on the penultimate day, which was the most difficult of all.
The victory in the race was won by the Brazilian crew number "351", led by Leandro Torres, 59-year-old Lurival Roldan became his co-driver in this test. Torres took the lead last Friday and held the position to the finish line thanks to consistently strong results in the TOP-3.

The length of the track along which the races will take place in 2017 is 9000 kilometers, and the Dakar is not driving on an asphalt highway, overcoming off-road terrain with sharp altitude changes, in a word, such raid conditions have never been seen in the history of rallying in the western hemisphere. For example, the length of several sections of the route will exceed 400 kilometers, and one - and all 500 kilometers. For almost a week the racers will have to fight each other on a high-mountain track.
The start of the upcoming Latin American "Paris - Dakar" will take place in Asuncion - the main city of Paraguay. Further, the route will move to the lands of Argentina, and then the athletes will find themselves in Bolivia. In the last of the named countries, the riders will stay the longest: imagine, about 5 days at the previously unprecedented highlands. The day of rest will also happen at the time of guests' stay in Bolivia, and from there the racing "cavalcade" will return to Argentina. Perhaps the most famous motorsport competition on the planet. Initially, the Dakar Rally began in Paris and ended in the capital of Senegal, Dakar, from where it got its name. But in 2009, due to the deteriorating situation in Arab North Africa, the Dakar Rally moved to Argentina. The situation here is much more stable, although it also does not do without various kinds of economic problems. Nevertheless, the remoteness from an excessively restless Europe has a beneficial effect on the general political climate, as for the United States, in "their" part of the world they behave quite well-meaning.

Last year Avtomalinovka followed the Dakar for the first time. And this year we broadcasted the Dakar-2017 live from all standings, although the main attention, of course, was paid to the truck race - where the MAZ-Sportavto team performs. We watched the dramatic race of motorcyclists, which ended with the victory of Briton Sam Sunderland, rejoiced at the well-deserved title of Sergey Karjakin on an ATV and applauded for the 13th victory of Petransel in the Peugeot. A new class of all-terrain vehicles (Utulity Transport Vehicle, UTV) double buggies appeared at the Latin American Dakar 2017 this year, where three BRICS countries competed - Brazil, Russia and China. There were few ATVs, they were released on the stage last and they finished the route late at night. The historic first victory was won by the Brazilian crew - Leandro Torres and Lorival Roldan. This was the first result of the Dakar-2017 in the ATV class.

The victory of the Russian crews in the Dakar-2017 was especially expected after the tenth stage, at which the crew of Eduard Nikolaev took the champion's pace. At the beginning of the release, good news from Buenos Aires. There was the finish of the Dakar rally, and our athletes have a double victory. Firstly, in the standings of trucks, there was no equal to the crews of "KamAZ-Master". The Russians have both gold and silver. And secondly, everyone is discussing the success of Sergey Karjakin. The full namesake of our chess player did not leave the opponents a chance and became the best on the ATV.
Sergey Karjakin, who won the Dakar rally, was the only Russian out of 37 participants entered in the ATV class. Karjakin is not really a beginner. Moreover, he was one of the favorites of the current season, having already participated in three Dakars since 2014. But before that, the best result is only seventh place.
Sergey Karjakin was preparing for this race in the sands in the snows of Yekaterinburg. In the same place, in his hometown, he collected and improved his car, and described in detail on his page on the Internet how everything happened. For example, I had to completely replace the gas tank so that there was enough fuel for the stages of the race. He took 56 spare wheels alone with him. After each stage, all four had to be changed at once.
And there were also classes in the gym. To ride in the sand, according to the experience of past races, I had to strengthen my hands by hitting the wheel with sledgehammers. These classes then helped at the stages more than once. "I got a little tired at the end, not just tired, but I was already tired of such a jabbing. The suspension overheated later. There were very large boulders on the road. The last moment hit the front bumper in a rut. It's still hot outside, 48 degrees," said the winner.
Sergey Karjakin is the namesake of our famous grandmaster, who recently fought for the world champion crown. Moreover, both Sergei were born in January, however, with a difference of a year. The famous chess player - in 1990, and the current winner of the "Dakar" - in 1991. By the way, his birthday is very soon, on the 25th.
In the ATV classification, the Russian became the best for the first time in the history of this race. And it has been held since 1979.
But they are pumping the champion of "Dakar-2017" pilot Eduard Nikolaev. Together with his co-drivers Yevgeny Yakovlev and Vladimir Rybakov, he returned the first place to KamAZ, which the team had lost last season.

Despite the name "Dakar", the rally for several years now has not been held either in the city of Dakar or in the territory of African Senegal in general. Since 2008, this competition, which once invariably started in Paris, was moved to South America due to the threat of terrorist attacks. This year, happy for both Sergei Karjakin and the KamAZ team, another crew of which took second place, the route passed through Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia.
This time, this difficult multi-day off-road race did without tragic accidents. Although there were falls, injuries, and overturned cars, and even a motorcyclist hit by a truck, whom the racers themselves took to the hospital.
In general, 71 people have died in the entire history of the Dakar. The last death happened in 2015, when a Polish motorcycle racer lost in the sands was found only a few days after the completion of the next stage. He died of dehydration.
The organizers have already recognized the tears of our motorcycle racer Anastasia Nifontova as the most touching moment of the completed rally. At one stage, she fell and was unable to lift the motorcycle. According to the rules, the cameramen had no right to help her - only the race participants. But they all passed by. Everyone except the Frenchman Gregory More. However, this help did not affect Anastasia's final result. Unlike our men, she never made it to the prize-winning place.
In January next year, namely in the first half of the month, the long-awaited holiday for all motorists will take place - a marathon rally « Paris-Dakar» 2017 of the year. According to the established tradition, the race will be organized in. This time the riders will have to fight on the tracks of Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay. The race will start from the city of Asunzon (capital of Paraguay), and the finish is scheduled for Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Competition regulations
So, since 1978, this is the 39th marathon in a row. Then the competition was called "Paris-Dakar". The automobile tournament started in Paris, and the final destination was the Senegalese capital Dakar. But, starting in 1995, the starting point of the race began to be transferred to other cities in France, and in 2009 the rally was not carried out at all in Africa due to the regular threats from terrorists. But the already formed brand could not be changed. Therefore, the word "Dakar" was not removed from the name.
Next year, a new grandiose competition among motorists will begin on January 2 and will run until January 14. The riders will need to cope with 9000 km, which will pass through the territories of Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina.
The organizers of this spectacular event did their best to make the tracks as difficult and varied as possible. Thus, riders on the way will encounter both flat deserts and high-mountain plateaus. For example, one of the roads will pass next to the popular Titanic Lake. And this is as much as four thousand meters above sea level.
