Headless mormyshkas - how to make your own devil. How to make a mormyshka "Devil" for various fishing conditions, game features and catchy wires

Every year, the windless mormyshka "devil" has new fans. This bait is one of the most popular and popular, due to its effectiveness for catching fish in the winter. When used correctly, the reelless reel can bring an impressive catch to the angler and make fishing an unforgettable experience. Often the "devil" is used to search for perch.

Recently, fishing in the winter on the "line" is of interest not only to experienced anglers, but also to lovers of such an exciting activity. Each fan of winter fishing has at his disposal several varieties of mormyshka at once, which become indispensable in a specific place and in specific conditions. The best results are noticed at the beginning of the winter season and at its end.

In addition, the “devil” successfully catches not only the “minke whale”, but also other inhabitants of the water depths. . Very often it is used for searches:

  1. Roaches.
  2. Bream.
  3. Sudak.
  4. Bersh.

However, the special popularity of the bait is connected precisely with its ability to attract a striped predator - perch. Externally, the artificial product is a drop-shaped mormyshka with an elongated body up to two centimeters long. It is fixed to the main fishing line with the help of a small ring, which is located in the upper part.

At the other end of the bait there is not a classic, familiar hook, but a tee, on which multi-colored beads are located. At the same time, there are no requirements for the color of the bait, so anglers use both light and dark shades.

For fishing on the "devil" it is customary to use classic winter tackle, which is equipped with a nod with medium hardness. The fishing rod is equipped with high-quality and reliable fishing line with a cross section of 0.1 to 0.15 millimeters.

Various modifications of the "devil" with different weights, sizes and shapes are available for sale. To increase the chances of a maximum catch, experienced anglers take several products for fishing at once, experimenting with them depending on the fishing conditions.

Despite the abundance of models in fishing stores, craftsmen love to make home-made inventions, modifying their performance and appearance. Through constant experimentation, they manage to create real masterpieces that demonstrate incredible catchability.

Types and modifications

When searching for a "devil" on the market, you can find a lot of different versions and modifications. Initially, it may seem that there are an incredibly large number of these types and they have significant differences, although the principle of operation remains the same.

In specialized establishments, bimetallic soldered models are offered, as well as single-color lead models, from solid and component parts, large and tiny. Craftsmen create many homemade inventions that also enter the market and deserve special attention.

Commercially available "devils" may differ in body shape. Primarily They are divided into three major groups:

  1. Elongated models (columns, sticks, cones).
  2. Short (drop-shaped, pot-bellied and "balls").
  3. With a relief body (ants, nymphs and others).

Subtleties of application

Before you buy or make a “devil” for a perch, you need to carefully study all the details of operation. Otherwise, the rewinder will become an unnecessary item that will not bring any success. If you just throw the product into the hole without using the appropriate technique, it will turn it into a small piece of metal with a tee.

However, if you show a minimum effort and use the correct wiring, the result can exceed all expectations. With the right movements that accurately mimic the behavior of live prey, the “devil” will turn into a serious tool that can give the angler an unforgettable catch.

The game used is somewhat reminiscent of the game of winter baubles. The only difference is that the vibrations are directed either horizontally or vertically, with no lateral deviations. The search for perch involves the implementation of decisive, but chaotic movements, while special attention should be paid to the bottom horizon. If after several casts the fish does not show interest in the mormyshka, the movements are repeated.

At the moment of raising the revolver from the bottom, it is animated with a nod. Without such manipulations, the perch simply will not be able to notice the bait and will consider it an unattractive object. Noticing the slightest hint of activity, you need to fix the nod and prepare to perform the sweep. Otherwise, the fish simply will not have time to catch on the tee.

When playing mormyshka, you need to experiment, changing the nature of the movements of the “devil”, starting with fast jerks and gradually moving to slow ones or vice versa. You also need to shorten or lengthen the pauses between each swing.

If the perch remains inactive, attention should be paid to other layers of water, because in winter the fish can live anywhere. In the absence of at least any reaction, it is better to move on to another hole and not waste time.

If you are going to catch a perch for the "devil" in winter, you need to remember that fishing at this time of the year is a very painstaking process that requires special training, skill and patience. Without the manifestation of these qualities, fishing may be unsuccessful.

DIY manufacturing

Making a mormyshka "devil" with your own hands is relatively easy. And although many beginners prefer to buy store products, real professionals are used to creating them on their own. In fact, the upcoming work does not require large investments, while the angler will be able to prepare several different versions that will have different operating parameters, namely:

  1. Form.
  2. By weight.
  3. Dimensions.

If you have to buy mormyshki in the store, then this can result in a decent amount. And not all models sold are suitable for certain conditions and remain of high quality.

Ways and methods of creation

Craftsmen practice several ways to make a "devil" for winter fishing. Different metals can be used as the material to be used in the construction, but experienced anglers recommend taking tin, solder or lead. Such raw materials are very well processed and melt at low temperatures.

A number of techniques can be used to create a "devil". Someone starts work with the preparation of several molds into which molten metal is poured. Thus, it is possible to save time and create several products at once in one process.

Others use solder and connect all the details of the bait with it, and then process them to obtain the desired shape. Someone generally fastens two forends from hooks, and then wraps metal wire around them. Such manipulations allow you to create a fairly creative bait that will work at any time of the year.

With home-made manufacturing, the main thing is not to be afraid to give free rein to your imagination, while maintaining the correct geometry.

In the process of creating a mormyshka The following materials and tools will be involved:

  1. A small amount of lead or tin.
  2. The required number of hooks (both single models and doubles or tees are used).
  3. Bead.
  4. Copper wire.
  5. Wooden block.
  6. Cold welding.
  7. Soldering iron.
  8. Foil.
  9. Files.

Walkthrough

To quickly make a highly effective bait with your own hands, it is enough to accurately follow the step-by-step instructions, moving from one stage to the next. You also need to remember about safety, because in the future you will have to work with sharp objects and tools. So:

Catching Tactics

In winter, many anglers go to the reservoirs in search of perch. The fact is that this inhabitant of the depths remains active for almost the entire cold period. For comparison, other species of fish rarely come out to feed and practically show no signs of life.

And if in the warm period the “minke whale” is attracted by foam rubber fish and spinners, then in winter, he may be interested only in a catchy mormyshka. At the same time, it should be noted that the size or geometric features of the “devil” are not important to the predator, namely its game.

Trying to attract a perch, it is necessary to create sharp and jerky movements, observing small deviations from the vertical axis. If the movements are too smooth, then you can simply miss a valuable bite.

The mormyshka should slowly descend from top to bottom and create movements at the bottom, resembling the behavior of live prey. It is very good if it touches the bottom layers and creates a cloud of turbidity near itself, which always arouses interest among predators.

You need to understand that winter fishing is full of troubles and discomfort. This is especially noticeable during extreme frosts, with the advent of which even the perch stops pecking. The arrival of anomalous cold weather makes the "minke whale" go deep to warm springs and other shelters. If the temperature continues to drop and becomes abnormally low, the fish may not show any activity at all. The situation will improve only after the rise in temperature marks.

Biting perch is minimal even with oxygen starvation. Decreased oxygen levels in the water column will force the fish to go into deep holes or to the edges near them. If there are various bottom anomalies, snags and other potential shelters in the reservoir, the perch will try to hide there and “outlast” the frost.

The best results are noticed under favorable weather conditions, namely when there is no strong wind outside, and the thermometer marks do not fall below minus 3-5 degrees Celsius. The duration of biting in winter is unpredictable and depends on the weather.

It should be noted that in addition to the "striped" predator, other representatives of the aquatic world also peck at the unique reelless bait. By the way, some of them are represented in the reservoirs of Russia in large numbers. These include:

Without a doubt, the devil mormyshka is one of the most effective lures for ice fishing. With its help, it is possible to extract a wide variety of inhabitants of the depths, including the largest ones. Experienced anglers claim that the “devil” remains an interesting mormyshka even during a period of complete bitelessness and deafness, when other methods and baits are simply powerless.

But in order for the fishing process to bring only pleasure, and the efforts expended to be justified, you need to correctly evaluate all the subtleties, select the appropriate wiring technique, and also find effective varieties of “devil” for specific conditions. Without the right approach, winter fishing can become a futile activity, unable to bring the expected catch.

Attention, only TODAY!

This article presents and discusses the technology of fast and high-quality (depending on the diligence and diligence of the master) making a do-it-yourself devil.

Having made many different devils of different sizes and weights in this way, you can choose your catchy and favorite one.

Damn, there is, perhaps, in the collection of every fisherman. Usually purchased devils often do not satisfy all the desires and needs of a fisherman to have a catchy and reelless mormyshka in their arsenal - a devil and use devils of different weights, sizes and with different hooks (thick, thin, dark or light) during winter fishing. And yes, experiments with the color of the devil's body have good results, depending on the light, the period of fishing and the depth in the reservoir at the place of fishing.

Naturally, all these subtleties affect the catch of the devil in different winter conditions.

For more maneuver when changing such a bait to another, in order to determine the catchability of today's mormyshka, it is necessary to stock up on a fairly large arsenal of different devils.

Thus, the question arises of a fairly quick manufacture of correct and catchy devils for your own needs with your own hands. The method of making devils considered in this article is good because, without bothering with casting molten lead and casting molds, you can quickly make devils of various weights, sizes and shapes from tin or lead, equipping them with different hooks.

Having slightly improved the technique for making devils, you can make them in this way without a loop, but with a hole in the center, which can even more affect the catch of the devil, which is made by yourself.

There is a lot written on the Internet about equipping the hooks of devils, but there is no definite answer there. Almost every option of equipping the devil’s hooks with cambrics, beads, or whatever else, has the right to exist, since the fisherman believed in this devil’s equipment after the first bite, which means there will be more catches and bites.

So, we take 3 hooks of the same size, bite off the eye of two of them and put on beads. Then we twist them together with a thin copper wire, as shown in the photo.

Next, we insert the hooks already twisted together into the drill chuck and solder with acid and tin. Now the tee is ready.

Next, we make two strips of lead of the required size with cuts for hooks from lead and solder the tee first to one piece with tin and acid.

Next, you need to lubricate everything with acid, attach a second piece and solder. You will get such a preparation.

Next, you need to cut off with a file and everything superfluous, and then bring it to a shine with a scalpel.

Next, you need to start the process of painting, and then dry. Usually fishing for such a devil is done without any replanting, but sometimes a devil equipped with small tubes works well.

In our time, catching fish from the ice on mormyshki without a nozzle is very popular. One of these lures is the devil's mormyshka.

What is a devil

The Devil is an ice fishing bait that effectively catches fish without the use of any animal bait. This is due to the fact that with a certain skill, the angler can force the mormyshka to perform movements that mimic the behavior of an aquatic invertebrate, thereby attracting fish.

Classic mormyshka devil has the shape of a drop and three hooks at the bottom.

Design

Any mormyshka imp has a body made of some heavy metal. The body can have a taper: straight or reverse, or the shape of an olive. The tee at the bottom is a characteristic feature of the devil, distinguishing it from other mormyshki. The fishing line is attached to the bait either by a ring protruding from the top of the bait, or by hooks, if the line is passed through a through hole in the devil's body. Devil's hooks, as a rule, are equipped with additional elements of one type or another.

Operating principle

Using a fishing rod, the angler gives the devil a peculiar game that imitates the movements of an aquatic invertebrate. It is believed that such movements are most reminiscent of the behavior of amphipods. Although these crustaceans do not live in all water bodies, catching the devil is effective almost everywhere - even where these invertebrates are not even in sight. The devil under water makes movements with one frequency or another, either rising higher or lowering to the very bottom.

Kinds

There are a great many varieties of devils. Common to them is the presence of a tee at the bottom of the bait. Different modifications of baits differ in the following ways.

The form

The drop-shaped form is considered a classic mormyshki. But there are also devils that have the shape of a ball. Usually devils have a smooth body, but you can also see mormyshkas with a corrugated body, such as the famous “ant” mormyshkas.

Tied to a line

On the shelves of fishing stores, you can most often see devils with a ring in the upper part, which serves to fasten the fishing line. Such baits are the easiest to manufacture. Craftsmen fishermen make little devils with a hole in the body of the mormyshka. A modification of the bait with a horizontal hole is quite rare; mormyshkas with a through axial hole are made much more often.

The hole can come out between three hooks (Kalachev's devil) or from the side at the bottom of the bait (Ukolov's devil). It is believed that devils with a through hole are more catchy.

Type of hook fastening

The three hooks can be attached to the devil's body in several ways. The most common are the following:

  • three soldered hooks at the bottom of the devil;
  • hanging tee from the bottom of the mormyshka;
  • one soldered hook on the bottom and two hanging hooks on the sides of the lure;
  • three hanging singles on the sides of the devil.

by color

The most common headless imps black and unpainted lead. However, adjusting to the whims of fish in specific fishing conditions, anglers paint devils in red, yellow and green.

According to the material of manufacture

Devils are made from the following metals:

  • lead;
  • tin;
  • tungsten;
  • copper wire.

For additional embellishments

Usually, all three devil hooks are decorated with additional elements, which are intended to increase the attractiveness of the bait for fish. These elements can be:

  • beads;
  • cambric;
  • beads;
  • threads.

For catching different types of fish, decorations of certain colors are used. For example, when fishing for perch, devils are more often equipped with red decorations, and when fishing for roach and bream, with white and yellow ones.

Healthy! A large bead worn on a fishing line above the devil often improves the bite. It should slide freely along the line. Such a bead is called a "runner".

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the devil's mormyshka are as follows:

  1. You can catch almost any fish - both predatory and non-predatory.
  2. You can easily do without the animal bait.
  3. Catching a devil is dynamic and reckless, almost like catching a winter lure.

The disadvantages of fishing are as follows:

  1. The need to catch on a thin line, which can lead to breaks when playing large prey.
  2. The low efficiency of the devil during the period of deaf winter, when fishing with bait is more effective.

The choice of bait for catching different types of fish

Perch

For catching perch, small-sized devils, usually black, are used, and red jewelry is put on the hooks.

Roach

When catching roach, good results can be achieved using dark-colored devils with a soldered or hanging tee, on the hooks of which are put on yellow or white jewelry. Small baits are more effective, so tungsten devils are often used.

Bream

For bream fishing, large devils are used, more often with hanging hooks equipped with white or yellow additional elements. Bright fluorescent decorations are also effective. The color of the lure is black or red.

Pike perch and bersh

Large devils with powerful hooks are used to catch predators.

DIY bait making

There are several ways to make devils yourself: from simple to complex.

In order to make a homemade bait with your own hands, you need to do the following steps:

  1. A ready-made lead weight is taken with a silicone tube inside.
  2. The tube is removed.
  3. A tee with a long forearm is taken.
  4. The eye of the tee is flattened with pliers.
  5. The forearm of the tee is threaded through the sinker hole.
  6. The sinker is crimped with pliers.
  7. The surface of the devil is processed with a file and a needle file.

Another simple method involves the use of copper wire. It looks like this:

  1. Several turns of copper wire are wound on the forearm of the tee.
  2. The wire is soldered.

A more complex method is associated with mold casting. Gypsum is used to make the mold, sometimes bread crumb or raw potato. However, if you do not have to manufacture baits on an industrial scale, you can do without a form. For this you will need:

Materials:

  • wooden block;
  • foil;
  • three single hooks with a long forearm;
  • tin or lead.

Instruments:

  • soldering iron;
  • container for melting metal;
  • file;
  • file.

The process of making a devil consists of the following steps:

  1. Three slots are made in a wooden block for hooks.
  2. Two hooks bite off the ear.
  3. Hooks are inserted into the slots.
  4. A funnel is made of foil and put on hooks with its narrow end.
  5. Pour the molten metal into the funnel.
  6. After the workpiece has cooled, it is processed with a file and a needle file.
  7. If necessary, paint the bait.

In the manufacture of devils with a through hole, it is better to fill in the mold.

In addition to hooks, a pin is inserted into the mold, which is pulled out after the workpiece has cooled. It turns out the required hole.

Important! When working with lead, safety regulations must be observed. Metal should be melted under a hood or in a respirator, since lead fumes are poisonous.

Tackle for fishing

Tackle for catching the devil consists of the following elements:

  1. Fishing rod. It is most convenient to catch the devil with a fishing rod - "balalaika". She has a rather short whip, she lies well in the hand, and with her help it is comfortable to perform the required animation of the lure.
  2. Fishing line. When fishing for the devil, monofilament fishing line or fluorocarbon is used. When fishing with any revolvers, a thick line is not used, since the necessary game can be given to the bait only with a thin line. The maximum line diameter is 0.14 mm.
  3. Nod. The nod is perhaps the most important piece of tackle for catching the devil. It is the movements of the nod that give the mormyshka the play of the required frequency. Various nods for catching the devil are used (photo 3). They are made from a clock spring or lavsan. The correct nod should be conical, i.e. it should taper towards the end both in thickness and width. The correct body kit of the nod is just below the horizontal under load and at an angle of 15-20 degrees above the horizontal without load. The length of the nod when catching the devil is about 20 centimeters.

Despite the wide variety of baits in fishing stores, it is not always possible to choose the “right” one. There are, of course, very good models, but the price for them is unreasonably high. In my understanding, the "devil" should be elongated teardrop-shaped, with a longitudinal hole for passing the fishing line, and not with a ring. Only in this case, the correct orientation of the bait is possible - vertical, and with the ring there can be distortions.

The hooks on the bait should be large, round-shaped, their spread should be slightly less than the length of the bait's body. Many may object to me that they successfully catch “devils” of a different shape. I like this one, and confidence in tackle largely determines the success of fishing. If you manage to get good "devils", this does not mean that you will be lucky next time, and cliffs are a fairly common occurrence. You can find a simple way out of this situation - to make the “correct” “devils” yourself.

There is a technology when the body of the bait is made from an olive sinker turned to the desired diameter. The hole in it is drilled on one side so that hooks can be inserted, which are then soldered. Next, with the help of a file and sandpaper, the devil is given the desired shape.

This technology is simple, but rather laborious. By the new season, several of my friends fishermen wanted to learn how to “draw” at once, so I decided to master their more mass production.

A friend advised me to try casting baits. For a couple of days I thought about how best to do this. The main problem is fixing the hooks to ensure their correct position. Hooks are well positioned in an ordinary clerical eraser, but he does not like heat. It is easy to make castings in a plaster mold, but you cannot fix the hooks. The idea came by itself - to make a combined form. I tried to implement it in practice - everything worked out the first time.

To make a mold, you will need: a small amount of alabaster, two stationery erasers, a small piece of wax (as an option - from a candle), a tube of cyanoacrylate (superglue), a razor blade or a sharp knife.

First of all, marking is done on one of the sides of the eraser - three straight lines intersecting at one point at an angle of 120 °.

My baits have three hooks soldered together, the angle between which should be 120 °. If you put four hooks, then two straight lines are drawn at an angle of 90 °. Next, the eraser is cut with a blade to half the thickness.

Hooks will be inserted into the resulting cuts. I use ready-made tees from companies such as Owner, VMC, Gamakatsu, which have the desired shape, strength and sharpness. The curved parts of the tee underwear are inserted into the eraser, and the forearm and barbed tips should stick out. We make marks at the exit points of the stings, after which we take out the hook, and on the marked places with small drops of glue we fasten the pyramids from the eraser, slightly larger in height than the stings protrude.

The next step is to make the body of the bait out of wax. It all depends on personal preferences. Mine are in the form of an elongated drop 10 and 15 mm long, 2.5 and 3 mm in diameter at the widest part. Wax in the hands heats up and acquires plasticity, easily rolls between the fingers. The pointed tip needs to be slightly cut off to get a flat area. Next, glue the body onto the prepared eraser, strictly vertically, setting the platform at the intersection of the lines on the eraser (as it turned out, superglue glues wax well - a big plus).

The next step is to make a mold from alabaster. It can be disposable and break apart after the devil is cast, but it is better to make it reusable - detachable, from two halves. Alabaster hardens very quickly, which speeds up the process. To get started, you need a small container. I use plastic boxes from small wobblers. In the box, you need to mix the alabaster with water until the density of sour cream, about half the volume. After that, quickly, until the material begins to solidify, but carefully lower our eraser with the body of the bait into it strictly to half and leave it until completely solidified.

It is desirable that the eraser touches the container wall with one side. After that, if necessary, level the surface, trying not to damage the wax. Next, melt a piece of butter in your hand and apply it with a brush in a thin layer on the surface of the alabaster. Then we prepare a new portion of the gypsum mixture, completely fill the container and wait for solidification. The result should be two layers of alabaster, separated by a thin layer of oil, with the body of the "devil" between them. If you do not use an oil layer, the alabaster halves will be firmly fastened together, it will be impossible to separate them without damage.

Carefully clean the alabaster around the eraser so that it can be removed without damaging the shape, and separate the halves. We remove the wax body of the bait and slightly grind the walls of the resulting recesses at the parting point with a fine sandpaper to ensure easy removal of the casting from the mold. Using a needle file, we make a recess in each of the halves so that when they are connected, a conical funnel is obtained for pouring metal.

We cut off the pyramids from the eraser, update and clean the cuts according to the markup and make a small indentation with a drill at the point of intersection of the lines. In the alabaster half-moulds, in place of the removed pyramids, recesses will remain in which the stings of the tee will fit. Due to this, they will not come into contact with the material of the mold and maintain the level of sharpening. In the process of making baits, the eraser can become unusable, having melted from repeated contact with molten metal. It can be easily replaced if you have exactly the same one. It is enough to attach it to the half of the form, mark the place from which the hook should come out, and mark and cut. Although practice has shown that the eraser is very durable - it easily withstands the casting of several dozen lures.

That's it, the form is ready. It consists of an eraser that serves as the bottom, and two alabaster halves, tightly connected to each other.

You can start casting!

To cast lures, you will need: hooks No. 18-16, sanding paper, soldering acid and a brush, sewing pins with a ring, lead and tin in a small amount, a spoon or a small ceramic crucible-thimble for melting them, pliers, wire cutters, a clothespin or a piece of thread.

First, we prepare the hooks: you need to remove the ring with wire cutters, then remove the coating on the forearm with sandpaper to the bend and treat the cleaned place with soldering acid. Insert the prepared hook into the cuts on the eraser. Close to the forearm we stick a pin slightly smoked over the flame of a candle.

After its removal from the casting, a longitudinal hole will remain in the body of the devil to pass the fishing line. The exit of the hole will be at the base of the hooks. It can also be made from the side of the devil, if the tip of the pin is clamped between the halves of the form, in the grooves scratched in advance.

Next, in a crucible or a spoon, we melt lead and tin in equal proportions so that the whole body and funnel can be poured. You can use only lead, but the alloy with tin is more durable and harder.

The melt must be thoroughly heated so that it flows easily and does not solidify too quickly. The pressure of the metal in the sprue contributes to the filling of all mold cavities and improves the quality of the product.

We let the mold cool for a while, carefully separate it and take out the casting. With wire cutters we disconnect the sprue-cone from the body, and then with the help of pliers we take out the pin from the body and the cone, which will be used for remelting and making the next bait.
From the resulting workpiece, we cut off the influx of metal with a sharp knife, process it with a needle file and fine sandpaper. We clean the hole with a pin or a special drill for jig. If necessary, slightly adjust the hooks with round-nosed pliers.

Now let's start painting. We take the bait out of the solution, put it through the hole for passing the fishing line onto a pin or wire and wait for the acetone to dry. After that, we apply nitro enamel on the body of the bait with a brush for painting models of military equipment. I prefer black, but you can use green, red, make fantasy colors. We move the devil back and forth along the wire so that the hole does not get stuck with paint, remove it and put it vertically on the hooks to dry, for about a day - until it dries completely. It is more expedient to make 5-10 baits at once using this technology, sequentially going through the stages with the entire series.

If desired, the hooks of the bait can be decorated with beads, cambric, foam or other artificial bait, but I prefer "naked". Such “devils” fully correspond to the concept of “no-bait mormyshka”, they proved themselves well last season, helped to catch a variety of fish: from match ruff to kilogram bream.

I hope my small but quite successful experience will be useful to other winter fishing enthusiasts who decide to master such an interesting type of fishing as the devil.

Using the presented technology, at home it is possible to make not only "devils", but also other types of jig of arbitrary shape and size, as well as spinners. Good luck fishing!

Hello. My name is Igor .. I caught it only four days .... Successfully, although there are many questions, but this is later. As an introductory contribution, I want to talk about how to make devils from lead and tungsten. I mainly fish for scavengers on the Yauzsky and Ruzsky reservoirs, the size of the devils is rather big. I rummaged through the entire Internet, I did not find anything worthwhile in manufacturing, in stores too. I had to strain my brains, since the experience of making molds from aluminum and gypsum is rather big. I do not pretend to novelty, what I came up with is mine.

I fish with big devils - for great depths - body length 15 mm, hooks No. 14. according to international classification. If you can buy good devils for 7-12m in your city, you are in luck. We have a lot of small ones, but not large ones. Our country is large, I think the situation is similar in many regions.

So lead devils. This is one of the ways to make. I make the form from plaster (it’s faster, it lasts for a long time, and I’ve already filled my hand). Model made of wood. I put a thin needle into the mold along the axis of the devil. It turns out a blank in the form of an olive with a central hole with a diameter of about 0.3 mm. Devils with a hanging tee are very successfully obtained from this blank. A thin wire 0.2-0.3 mm, on one side in a loop on a short twist, a tee ring, we thread the free end of the wire into the casting from the thin end and knit a ring for fishing line. I fasten the places of twists with drops of solder. The blank-casting can be cut off, you get a little devil (pictured No. 1).

Hard tee is more difficult. We bite off the ring at the tee, clamp it into the drill chuck, serve it with a thin layer and solder a piece of the same wire, remove the excess solder. At the end of the casting with a 1.5 mm drill (thin tee and wire + accurate soldering, this diameter is enough for me) I drill a hole to a depth sufficient to drown the forend of the tee. We knit a ring, grab it with a drop of solder (pictured No. 2). This method has a drawback. The devil cannot be pulled out of the mouth of the fish by holding it by the body, the walls at the landing site of the tee are thin and easily torn, I pull it out by the tee with my fingers or mini-pliers. The problem, I think, can be solved in two ways.

The first thing that came to my mind was to put a drop of soldering acid and solder into the hole where the tee was recessed. It turned out tightly, but another problem popped up. old, good Kolyubakin, there are no problems with them. I tried to experiment, annealed it on a gas stove. Who faced this problem? Share. The second option is to put the tee on the epoxy, but I haven’t tried it, my hands didn’t reach, and it’s not bad to catch it if you carefully tear it out of the mouth.

Material - lead. I heat the form 50-60 degrees. There is no non-spill, because the form is hot and special channels are made in it for the exit of air, which displaces the poured lead, called the upstream. It goes from the bottom of the recess at an upward angle so that the lead does not leak through.

Casting mold for a jack with a TEE made of aluminium.

More about the form. In order not to repeat, we will take the description from the topic as a basis"DAMN" - models and production , everything is correctly described there. Now the nuances.

Regarding the material of the form, I took one of the old forms from duralumin twenty years ago, once cast small “uralkas”. So, I could not crush my model of the devil L = 15 mm, diameter from 2 to 3.5 mm in a vice even with a meter pipe. Fortunately, there was a hydraulic press nearby. I don’t think that it’s nearby, quite by accident someone will have it. Use only aluminum!

Because the volume of the extruded mass is large enough, I advise you to mark a place on the two halves and select a piece of metal to facilitate extrusion (I will explain separately if it is not clear) and to center the model so that it does not turn in the initial phase of extrusion.

So, the model was crushed. Let's attach the tee to the form and determine the place for the grooves on the lower half of the form (see photo). I cut with a "grinder" with a cutting wheel.
Then, one of the most important operations - sampling under the upper hook, cut it with a rough 3 mm circle. Control the depth so as not to spoil the shape !!!

And in conclusion, we cut the guide pins to 1.5-2 mm (quite enough for centering), it is they that prevent the removal of the upper half of the mold.

Now the most responsible! How to ensure the passage of lead into the bottom of the devil. I love narrow devils, the fish like it. BUT! .. Considering that the diameter in the narrow part is 2 mm, and the thickness of even a thin tee with soldered wire is at least 1.5 mm, the gap for the flow of lead is zero point horseradish. I don’t know which one, I didn’t put on sensors, but it’s much higher than 100 degrees. Let me explain a little: when we pour lead, the air should be forced out of the mold. If there is no way out, it will not allow the lead to spill to the end (the more precise the form, the more critical).

The first devil was poured with a ring on the tee - the lead only drained to the ring. There was only one blow, he made the second one, he bit off the ring - the result is obvious! If the devil is fatter, there are fewer problems.
