Figure skater Kovtun reached Tokyo and joined the Russian national team - FFKKR

Three-time Russian champion in men's single skating Maxim Kovtun flew to Tokyo and joined the national team of the country, which is preparing to compete at the World Figure Skating Team Championship, Olga Ermolina, the press attaché of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), told R-Sport agency ... Earlier, Kovtun said on his Instagram account that he missed a flight to Tokyo and was unable to fly to the World Team Championship with the team. According to the skater, the delay was due to the fault of a taxi driver who got into an accident on the way to the airport. Kovtun had to buy a new ticket at his own expense and fly to Tokyo with a transfer via Seoul. Maxim Kovtun: I will not give up, I will return to the previous level. Interview \u003e\u003e "At present, the Russian national team is in Tokyo and is preparing for the World Team Championship," Yermolina said. The World Figure Skating Team Championship will be held in Tokyo from April 20-23.

Figure skater Pogorilaya said she is still experiencing a setback at the World Cup

The bronze medalist of the 2016 World Championship in women's single skating, figure skater Anna Pogorilaya, told the R-Sport agency that she still cannot forget the unsuccessful skating of the free skating program at the World Championship, because of which she took only 13th place. In the 2016/17 season, Pogorilaya won silver in the European Championship, won two stages of the Grand Prix, bronze in the Series Finals, but at the world championship in Helsinki she made a number of mistakes in the free program and became only 13th. “I couldn’t forget what happened. Of course, it’s impossible,” said Pogorilaya. “There are many reasons for what happened, but I don’t know which is the main one. And how can I know? You can only guess, but I don’t like to do this. The main thing is that we try to get rid of problems in training. Anyway, this is sport, this is life, and everything is possible here. The main news of figure skating in Russia and the world today, April 18: Figure skater Kovtun missed his plane in Tokyo and did not fly from the Russian national team to the team World Cup

Maxim Kovtun, three-time Russian champion in men's singles skating, said on his Instagram account that he missed his plane to Tokyo and did not fly with the Russian national team to the World Team Championship. According to the skater, the delay was due to the fault of the taxi driver. According to Kovtun, he had to buy a new ticket at his own expense and fly to Tokyo with a transfer. The skater is currently in Seoul awaiting a flight to the Japanese capital. The World Figure Skating Team Championship will be held in Tokyo from April 20-23.

On ice arenahome to the Boston Bruins of the NHL, there will be no faceoffs or power attacks this week. Instead of them, throws, jumps, twizzles performed by the best skaters in the world are planned. The most European city in the United States was honored to host the World Cup.

Homeland called Trankov

The leaders of the Russian national team flew to America in advance so as not to sleep on the ice, as it often happened during the Grand Prix stages that took place overseas. Nina Moser's group conducted an acclimatization camp in New York. At the same time, the leading greenhouses combined training with a course of treatment.

Even after the application of the Russian national team was sent to the International Skating Union (ISU), there is no certainty that, for the first time in the season, we will see face-to-face rivalry between our two strongest pairs on the ice of Boston: Tatyana Volosozhar / Maxim Trankov and Ksenia Stolbova / Fedor Klimov. The latter's injury is so serious that he may not be allowed to risk not only his reputation, but his entire career, despite his partner's great desire to become a world champion.

At the European Championships in Bratislava, two-time Olympic champion Trankov said that he was not eager to compete in the world championship. Only, as they say, the Motherland called. After all, the third duet from the Moser group - Evgenia Tarasova / Vladimir Morozov - is not yet ready to compete with the Canadian pair Megan Duhamel / Eric Radford, who are the current world champions. In addition to the Russians and Canadians, the Chinese couple Wenjin Sui / Tsun Han and the ageless Alena Savchenko, who wants to win the world title for Germany along with ex-Frenchman Bruno Masso, have medal ambitions.

The medal prospects of our single skaters, Maxim Kovtun and Mikhail Kolyada, are not rated very highly by specialists. Yes, Kovtun always has five quadruple jumps in his application for two programs, but even the world junior champion, Israeli Daniel Samokhin, has the same gentleman's set in his arsenal, and he performs the most complex elements more consistently. Among the favorites among men are the Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu, the Spaniard Javier Fernandez and the Canadian Patrick Chan. The latter will be super-motivated in Boston: the silver medalist of the 2014 Olympics has already announced that he may end his career after this tournament. If he realizes that he can no longer compete with young talents. These include the Japanese Soma Uno and the Chinese Boyana Jin, who have already loudly declared themselves this season. Tellingly, the Canadian is not at all afraid of Evgeni Plushenko.

Battle of Zueva and Shpilband

Serious showdowns are expected in the women's competition. It was at the European Championships that the Russian trio had no rivals, and in Boston there will be three Japanese women, each of whom can push any of our girls from any step of the podium, and the American Gracie Gold with Ashley Wagner. In figure skating, the factor of one's own site does not play a decisive role, but referees are also people and can appreciate a good reception.

The tournament of dancing couples promises to be very interesting. The leader of the US team has changed this season. At the national championship, Shibutani's brother and sister beat Madison Chok and Ivan Bates. This rivalry is spiced up by the fact that the first pair is coached by Marina Zueva, and the second - by Igor Shpilband. The once brilliant coaching tandem after the collapse vies for life and death.

It is no coincidence that Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin went to Shpilband for an internship. Not to go to Zueva, with whom Nikita Katsalapov and Victoria Sinitsina train! This pair will become the first number of the Russian national team in Boston.

Due to the disqualification of Ekaterina Bobrova, everything was confused in the camp of our dancers. So Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin had to prepare for the World Championship. They flew to the USA only on Sunday, but, as one of their trainers, Irina Zhuk, noted, the guys have no problems with acclimatization. True, no one expects obligatory medals from them. After all, even at the European Championship, Alexandra and Ivan were only fifth.

Italians Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte, who stood on the podium, cherish ambitious plans, as do Canadians Caitlin Weaver / Andrew Poget. For the students of Angelica Krylova, the World Championship is the most important start in terms of gaining authority. After all, the return to amateur sports was announced by Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir, olympic champions Vancouver and Sochi silver medalists. Moreover, they will train not with Zueva or Shpilband, but with the rapidly gaining reputation coaching duo Marie-France Dubreuil - Patrice Lozon, who prepared reigning champions world and Europe French couple Gabriela Papadakis / Guillaume Sizeron.

Having missed the first half of the season due to a serious injury to their partner, the French triumphantly returned to Bratislava and became two-time European champions. Will it be possible to become two-time world champions? Experts are careful in their forecasts. The French do not have a winning short dance, and the competition in Boston will be much higher than in Bratislava.

Decision The International Union skaters (International Skating Union) or ISU s at the TD Garden sports arena, which can accommodate 18 thousand spectators. It was here in 2001 that such an event was already held. The action, loved by many in the world, will begin on March 28 and will end on April 3 next year. The fight for medals will unfold among men and women in single skating, in pair figure skating and sport dancing... Consider the qualification system and the figure skating schedule for the 2015-2016 season.

World Championship qualification system

Athletes from countries that are members of the ISU, who turned 15 years old on July 1 of the previous year, are allowed to participate in one of the main forums of the world figure skating.

All national federations of the participating countries select skaters according to their own criteria. So far, the main condition is that they fulfill the minimum technical assessment set at competitions of various ranks held prior to this world championship.

The number of athletes from each country in one discipline equals 1 person or a pair, by default. The maximum number of participants from a specific country is 3. The requirements for the places occupied, which ultimately determine the number of participants, are as follows:

Skater admission to the main competitions

In the 2010 - 2011 season. The ISU made a decision (still in force) to conduct a preliminary qualification test for those countries that did not make it to the top 18 places in singles, 15 in dancing and 12 in pair skating in the previous year. Accordingly, those athletes who were in these places immediately start the execution of the short program.

There is also such a nuance. If a country is within the requirements, but did not win the right to participate in the maximum number of participants (three) at the previous tournament, then those countries that follow in the list below fall into the free places.

All other participants in the competition pass qualifying selection, performing their arbitrary number. Singles who took the first 12 places, 8 - from pair skating, 10 - among dance pairs, are allowed to the main competition, that is, to perform a short program.

Definition of countries - participants of the World Cup figure skating in future 2016 year

According to the ISU rules, skaters participating in the previous championship earn quotas for their compatriots for the next year.

The states that, following the results of this year's championship, have won the opportunity to send more than one participant to the future world forum in 2016, are presented in the table:

Number of participants Men (single skating) Women (single skating) Paired figure skating Ice dancing sports
3 Spain Japan Canada Canada
USA Russia PRC France
USA Russia USA
2 Japan France France Italy
Russia Canada Italy Russia
PRC PRC USA
Canada The Republic of Korea
France
Kazakhstan
Uzbekistan

Russian athletes at the 2015 world tournament brought their country gold (E. Taktymasheva) and bronze (E. Rodionova) medals and the maximum quota - 3 participants at Boston-2016. Men did not perform very well and will be represented by only 2 skaters.

Pair skating at the Shanghai championship still earned the right to be represented by 3 participants, and dance pairs - only 2.

A bit of history

The very first world championship was held in St. Petersburg back in 1896, thanks to the authority of Vyacheslav Sreznevsky. In the future (1911 - 1917), he headed the Russian olympic Committee... Only men - singles competed in this tournament and the gold went to the German Gilbert Fuchs, a self-taught figure skater. In 1902, one woman, Medge Sayers Cave, took part in the tournament, along with men, and won silver, although this year's gold medalist Ulrich Salchow recognized her advantage.

The women's tournament was first held in 1906. As a discipline, pair skating first made itself known at this level in 1908. For the first time, all three disciplines were presented at a unified World Cup in 1930 in New York (USA). Dancing couples officially competed only in 1952 in Paris (France).

ISU, in addition to the World Cup, holds other figure skating championships: Europe, four continents, among juniors, synchronized skating (since 2000), an unofficial team world championship (since 2009).

To the attention of amateurs!

The approximate schedule for these ISU competitions for 2016 is as follows:

  • The European Championships will be held in Bratislava (Slovakia), beginning on January 25 and end on January 31;
  • The Four Continents Championship will be held in Taipei, Taiwan, starting on February 9 and ending on February 14;
  • The World Junior Championships will be held in Debrecen (Hungary) from March 14 to 20.

All figure skating fans love to watch their favorite skaters perform. Of particular interest is the gathering of world-class figure skaters at the annual world championships. In America in the spring the championship will be held figure skating world 2016.

Less than a year is left before one of the most significant battles of athletes in this sport. The city of Boston is honored to host the most famous figure skaters. Spring days from March 28 to April 3 will be able to give figure skating fans a real extravaganza of beauty, the intensity of a stubborn struggle and the joy of stunning victories.

4 disciplines will be included in the fight for medals - women's and men's singles skating, sports pairs and ice dancing.

Competitions in all disciplines will be organized and held at the TD Garden stadium in the American city of Boston. This sports arena also called Boston Garden or simply Garden. The International Skating Union (ISU) made this choice not by chance.

Boston's huge sports massif serves as the home for NHL hockey battles, basketball games NBA, as well as for competitions in gymnastics, boxing and the organization of various shows.

World-famous figure skaters have already competed at this skating rink in the distant 2001.

Boston Garden can host up to eighteen thousand spectators from all over the world at the same time.

Time spending

The timing of the championship is logically justified. The end of March and the beginning of April are the peak period for many athletes, this is the time when skaters can show highest results... Long-term pre-training, the finished championships of the participating countries will help to identify and send to the world championship the strongest athletes of this sport.

Ticket prices start at $ 250 for balconies and up to $ 1300 for VIP seats.

Spring is the time of the last start of the season, as a result of all the achievements of the skaters over the past year. The 2016 World Figure Skating Championships is included in the season schedule of all global competitive events.

Selection criteria for participants

There is a limited age limit for figure skaters wishing to compete in the World Championships. Participants must not be at least the next 1 July 2000, i.e. the youngest skater must not be under 15 years old. All competing athletes will represent ISU member countries. Each country can apply for participation in any discipline from one to three people. The minimum number - one - for each type of skiing is the default.

Countries not listed in the table have one participant

In order to exhibit a greater number of representatives at the World Championship, one more indicator must be present - the prospective participants before the World Championship must receive a minimum mark for technique at international competitions. For men, this is 20 points in the short program and 35 in the free program, for women, respectively, 15 and 25, in pair skating you need to score 17 and 30, for dancing these indicators are 17 and 27.

All applications for participation in the World Championship in 2016 are formed according to the final results of the competitions of the same rank in 2015. Each country's association has the right to select candidates according to its own criteria. Very often, a team of skaters is formed based on the results of the European Championship preceding the world competition. If the athletes did not take the first 18 places in singles competitions in the previous year, 15 in ice dancing, and 12 in sports pairs, then they will have to qualify for selection for the world championship.

It should be noted that no country received the maximum number of athletes in each discipline. The Americans are closest to Russia in terms of the number of applications, but they cannot exhibit three skaters in men's and pair skating.

2016 marks the 120th anniversary of the organization of the first world-class figure skating competition. The first world championship was "available" only to male athletes. Since 1902, a single woman - Medge Sayers Cave - joined the "company" of men.

The famous Ulrich Salchow won this competition, after whom one of the jumps in figure skating was named. Women's competitions among world figure skaters began to be organized 4 years later (1906). Two years later (1908), another discipline joined the world championship - the greenhouse competition.

The 1930 World Championship brought all three types of figure skating together for the first time, and the Dancer Competition is the last figure skating discipline to become permanent in world-class competitions. This happened relatively recently, only in 1952 in the capital of France. Since then, 4 unchanged disciplines have been present in world-class competitions. Since 2009, an innovation has been introduced in figure skating - an unofficial world championship of competitions in the team championship is held.

Representative office of Russia

The results of world-class competitions in 2015 for Russian figure skaters will make it possible to present the following number of participants in 2016 by type:

  • men - 2;
  • women - 3;
  • pairs - 3;
  • dancing - 2.

In order for the dancers to be able to represent three participants, in the 2015 World Championship it was necessary to try and score two couples in total of no more than 13 places, while our athletes "went over", taking seventh and eighth places. Thus, the total of places was 15, which means a negative verdict for the third dance couple at the 2016 World Championship.

Unfortunately, men also failed to provide our country with the maximum quota. Maxim Kovtun and Sergey Voronov did not live up to their hopes for the possible representation of three male figure skaters at the next world championship, which is very sad.

The competition of very strong figure skating representatives from other countries of the world did not allow them to score the necessary points, and, therefore, to give a ticket to three male singles at the 2016 World Cup. The famous figure skater Evgeni Plushenko speaks about his participation in the 2016 World Championship. Already a three-time champion in these competitions, he wants to once again compete for victory with talented and less experienced singles.

Evgeny is in excellent shape and is in a fighting mood. Men's figure skating has been short of gold medals for 10 years. The last time a Russian figure skater climbed to the first step of the podium was just Evgeny. This was in 2004.

After the triumphant victory of this Russian, none of the male single skaters from Russia managed to win the world championship. In any case, he will root for all our skaters in all other disciplines and hope that the forces will not let our athletes down and luck will be on their side.
