The American Music Awards (AMA) is being presented for the 45th time this year, but the award, created in opposition to the Grammy, has never been on par with the competition. Perhaps this is because the Grammy is awarded by the decision of the members of the professional Recording Academy, which are joined by the most successful artists, and the AMA chooses the nominees and winners by public vote, which makes this prize similar to the one what is called People's Choice Awards, which also appeared in the 70s. But be that as it may, the Grammy is still the main musical event of the year, while the AMA already seems to have come to terms with his role as "forever second".

Of course, this does not prevent the creators of the award (this is the company of producer Dick Clark and) from organizing a three-hour show annually -

with performances of stars, invitations of celebrities and the obligatory red carpet, which is written about by all publications covering the events of show business. Still, shows of this magnitude are quite rare (something similar is done by MTV, but not so seriously), and one Grammy is still unable to meet the demand. In addition, the AMA sometimes manages to set fashion - for example, last year it was at this award that performers and laureates first spoke about the dangers of Trump's presidency, which has become the trend of the year at various ceremonies, from the Golden Globes to MTV awards. However, in this case, the time factor played a role - the American Music Prize is traditionally awarded in November, before the start of the main premium season, and was the first to respond to the unexpected results of the US elections.

This year, due to the absence of any bright political events, the musicians and the host of the show, the actress Tracy Ellis Ross (as well as the organizers of the award) had to focus on purely musical issues. And in this anniversary year for AMA, there were no surprises.

Claimed to win in eight categories, he easily took seven prizes for himself.

He received the title of "Artist of the Year" - that is, he won the main nomination of this award, became the best singer in two categories at once - "Pop / Rock" and "Soul / R & B", and his album "24K Magic" became the best album of these types of music. In addition, Bruno Mars' song "That" s What I Like "won the category" Best Soul / R & B Song ", and the video for it became the best video of the year.

The fact that AMA, as a rule, only captures popular phenomena, and does not set them, has long been no secret. One of such phenomena this year was the song "Despacito" - a composition by Puerto Rican musician Luis Fonsi, recorded with the participation of vocalist Daddy Yankee, which was released back in January, but only reached a wide audience in April, after recording a remix in which he participation. After that, something unimaginable began - the Spanish-language composition topped the charts in the United States and Britain (for the first time in the last twenty years, after the success of the song "Macarena"), the video clip collected more than 4 billion views on YouTube, and also became the service's record holder for likes (more than 20 million).

The winners of the 2017 American Music Awards, the annual National American Music Awards, were announced on November 19. Past ceremony was distinguished by the scale of performances, and also showed interesting results.

Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson with children

Lady Gaga

Pink with husband Carrie Hart

Selena Gomez

Demi Lovato

Christina Aguilera

Among the best live performances at the 2017 American Music Awards, Christina Aguilera undoubtedly took the lead with the honor of performing the Whitney Houston tribute. Recall that just the other day, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the soundtrack to the film "The Bodyguard" was reissued. It was from the songs to this movie that Aguilera's eight-minute performance consisted.

Unfortunately, rock artists this year did not particularly distinguished themselves at the awards, but the fans were delighted with the joint number of Khalid and Imagine Dragons, who successfully mixed their hits. In addition, among the duets, the audience and TV viewers noted with particular warmth who performed the classic rock ballad Everybody Hurts.

Kelly and Pink also appeared on stage with solo numbers. For Clarkson, the performance was more than traditional (although the young lady sings, of course, beautifully). But P! Nk set a new acrobatic record by performing a single at 34 floors. The singer has repeatedly flown in the air at her performances, including at several music awards, but she has never risen so high. However, like other artists.

In a more traditional vein, Lady Gaga performed her latest studio single, putting on a great show with live musicians, set design and cool choreography.

At the end of the evening, guests, nominees and winners of the American Music Awards 2017 honored disco legend, real pop icon Diana Ross. The artist received an award for life achievements and gave the audience a pleasant performance, which was preceded by a documentary.

Noah and Miley Cyrus, Ellen DeGeneres

On August 27, the 34th Music Awards took place in Inglewood, California, where, as you might guess from the title, the best music videos of the year are chosen. the site tells how the show went and who became the triumphant of the evening.

Having admired the guests of the red carpet, we move, albeit virtually, to The Forum hall, where the main action took place that evening. Miley Cyrus, Pink, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Jared Leto and many other popular performers took the stage. However, the figurines in the shape of an astronaut in a spacesuit with a flag bearing the MTV logo did not go to everyone.

The winner of the award was rapper Kendrick Lamar, who won in six nominations at once: his video Humble, which plays on the theme of the famous fresco by Leonardo da Vinci "The Last Supper", was recognized best video of the year. True, this did not help Lamar to win in the nomination "Best Artist": this title went to British singer Ed Sheeran.

The award for Katy Perry was not very successful in terms of awards: the singer's video Chained to the Rhythm was nominated in four categories, but in the end it won none. However, the star was clearly not upset because she had to leave the VMA empty-handed: Katie, who became the host of the evening, put on an enchanting show for the audience and got a lot of applause. She hovered over the stage in an astronaut costume, tried on different outfits and wigs, and danced on a giant basketball ball... Even Miley Cyrus, who this evening lit up on stage in the style of the 50s, could not outshine Perry!

Pink, who received the Michael Jackson award from Ellen DeGeneres, also had a bright performance. The singer thanked for the honor given to her and turned to her little daughter, who at that moment was sitting in the hall, with an emotional speech, the meaning of which was as follows: you need to love yourself, anyone and know that all people are different.

Jared Leto also had an emotional speech, who remembered the lead singer of Linkin Park Chester Bennington:

Chester was a friend of mine, and he taught me many important things - by example: to work hard, follow your dreams, and always be kind and caring while doing it. When I think of Chester, his face immediately rises in front of my eyes, and he always smiles. I think about his incredibly big heart. I think about his wife, family, and the group, where everyone was like brothers. I remember Chester's voice, fierce and gentle at the same time. A voice that will live forever

- concluded Leto.

Another poignant speech was made that evening by Paris Jackson, who appeared at the ceremony to present the award for Best Pop Video. Michael Jackson's daughter spent the time allotted to her on stage to stigmatize racism: Paris condemned the racially motivated riots in Charlottesville.

By the way, videos, one way or another condemning discrimination on the basis of skin color, religion, nationality, orientation and other grounds, were allocated a separate category.
