Children performed tasks dedicated to the Holy Land, and solved crosswords on persecutions to the ROC.

Olympiad on the basics of Orthodox culture (OPK - there is such a subject in the school program) in St. Petersburg is held since 2012, and in Russia - from 2009. An agreement on its pilot conduction in 2008 was concluded among themselves the Patriarch of Alexy II and the then head of the Ministry of Education and Science Andrei Fursenko. About holy land and persecution
As Svetlana Timchenko, a curator of the Olympiads of the Religious Education and Catechization of the St. Petersburg Diocese told Svetlana Timchenko, the school of the Olympiad, this year, was devoted to two topics. In St. Petersburg, the Olympiad on the OPK took place in three rounds: school, district and urban. 20 people came to the final. According to Svetlana Timchenko, all of them are students of secular schools, mostly students of grades 5-7.
No one from the finalists in the school program of the subject "Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture", as it is taught only in the fourth grade of high school. Children were preparing for the Olympics, enthusiast teachers who took upon themselves such a voluntary duty. Somewhere there are teachers in Orthodox culture in 4 classes, somewhere - teachers on history, literature, says Svetlana Timchenko.
On February 11, in the St. Petersburg diocesan administration, the finalists solved the tasks of the final stage of the Olympiad. Forms with results sent to Moscow. The names of the winners will be known in about a week.
Award for winners will be diplomas. But high school students will receive additional points to the exam in the specialty "Theology". This means that the victory in the Orthodox Olympiad will give them an advantage in admission to universities, where there is such a specialty. In Russia, 29 such universities.
Last year, from the Religious Education Department of the St. Petersburg Diocese, we gave the winners with memorable books and conducted a tour of the laurel. This year, most likely, in the temple after the prayer, we will congratulate and give diplomas. If possible, we organize a cultural program, they said in the diocese.
In total in the 2016/2017 academic year, more than four thousand schoolchildren participated in the Orthodox Olympiad, which is more than a thousand more than last year.
