In 1857, the first were invented in Switzerland gYM's for bodybuilding, and one of the first customers was the Russian royal family.

With the advent of powerlifting in Russia, he, along with oriental martial arts, began to be considered a sport of privileged and wealthy people (bourgeoisie). Despite this, enthusiasts independently equipped the halls, and so that they would not be closed, they began to call this sport athletic gymnastics.

In 2011 russian athlete D. Ivanov in the "Squat" discipline at the IPF World Championship took a load of 460 kilograms. However, the record was not counted as another exercise (bench press) was not completed.

We don't have enough measured strength
We are striving for the edge, beyond the limit!
And let the veins break
Calmness is a faded lot.

We faced off against the gods
We are able to extend the time
And the iron bends under us
Our spirit is unable to win.

We are fighting death, aging.
And each of our new records
Knowledge will pierce with illumination,
You, life, powerlifting is not a sport!

Nutritional features of athletes involved in strength sports

Power sports include weightlifting, powerlifting, bodybuilding, kettlebell lifting.

The main task of an athlete involved in strength sports is the active development of muscle strength. The principle of planning a diet for strength sports is to take into account the individual characteristics of the body of each athlete. In order to organize a rational diet for a person involved in this sport, it is necessary to have information about physical data, the results of medical tests. Calories are then calculated. Particular care in calculations is characteristic of bodybuilding. Sometimes it even happens that the athlete-bodybuilder must weigh each piece of food before eating it.

These sports are characterized by high-calorie nutrition, especially during the period of weight gain. The average calorie content of a weightlifter's daily diet is up to 5000 kcal for men and up to 4000 kcal for women.

In cases where weightlifters and bodybuilders need particularly accurate calorie counting, it is necessary to take the general characteristics of the physique as a basis. To register the energy expended and calorie consumption, it is convenient to keep a diary, in which the amount of food eaten is noted, its calorie content is calculated according to tables taken from special reference books. This data will help you find out the calorie content of certain foods and their nutrient content. Given the information available, it is easier to change the composition of food in order to achieve a certain result. After the diet has been accurately determined, subsequent calculations will no longer be needed, since the body's need for food is constantly changing.

The selection of the diet should be carried out according to the intended goal - gaining mass, losing fat, building up muscle strength, etc. Each type of diet should be constant for 2 weeks to 1 month, then you can adjust the diet, coordinating it with the trainer and the doctor.

The period of weight gain is very important for both bodybuilders and weightlifters. At this time, it is necessary to ensure the maximum intake of protein foods. This raises the problem of the illegibility of some athletes in the sources of this substance. This approach gives dubious results, and often incapacitates the entire body. With an unreasonable, unregulated intake of protein, a huge amount of adipose tissue builds up on the muscles, which is then very difficult to get rid of. During the period of weight gain, an athlete needs to consume about 2 g of protein per 1 kg of body weight per day, in some cases this figure can be brought to 3 g.

The content of carbohydrates in the diet of a strength athlete is very important, since they are the main source of energy. Carbohydrates should make up a significant portion of your diet. In the case of a low-calorie diet, you should pay attention to the ratio of carbohydrates and proteins in food. Normally, the carbohydrate content should be 2 times the protein content. Fat intake can be up to 30% of the total calories, but most of it, at least 2/3, should be unsaturated fat. Low-fat diets, often inappropriately used by athletes, do not always help to eliminate body fat. Insufficient intake of unsaturated fats leads to the fact that the body begins to save it and the rate of lipogenesis drops sharply. Therefore, it is necessary to closely monitor how the body reacts to excess or lack of fat.

An increase in the amount of protein in food leads to the need to increase the volume of water intake, as this allows you to cleanse the body of harmful metabolites. The water regime for strength sports is not as critical as in speed-strength sports, however, it is necessary to drink about 2 liters of liquid per day, excluding tea and coffee, which have diuretic properties. Special attention it is necessary to pay attention to the quality of the consumed water, as it determines the quality of the building material.

The diet of weightlifters and bodybuilders is high in calories, so the body often gets an excess of salt. In such cases, it is necessary to monitor the salt balance and limit sodium intake. Excessive salt intake causes water retention in the body, as a result of which the muscles seem to float in water. Lack of salt causes electrolyte imbalances, which in turn can disrupt the functioning of the heart and brain. Lack of other minerals can lead to serious disorders in the body and reduced performance, especially for substances such as zinc, magnesium, calcium.

In strength sports, especially in bodybuilding, various nutritional supplements are very widely used. The most popular are proteins and amino acids. The intake of protein-carbohydrate and amino acid preparations should correspond to the goals and objectives, as well as the composition of the main diet. You should not get carried away with the consumption of individual amino acids, they should complement and balance nutrition, but not replace it in any way. The best sources of essential amino acids are meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, cheeses, nuts, and legumes.

A rational approach is also necessary when choosing a vitamin complex. A good multivitamin is absolutely essential, but one should be wise about the choice of vitamins and observe moderation in dosages.

The vitamin complex and its dosage should be in accordance with the doctor's recommendations.

Strength athletes are advised to supplement with protein, creatine, multivitamins, mineral salts and moderate amounts of amino acids.

With intense training, the body of bodybuilders and weightlifters loses a large amount of salts and minerals with sweat. In this regard, simultaneously with the additional introduction of medications into the body, it is necessary to carefully choose the method of preparing dishes from vegetables and fruits. It is known that when boiling, frying and stewing, plant food loses 70% of its nutritional properties, so it is best to bake vegetables in the oven with the peel or steam them so that minerals do not go into the water and do not disappear. Fruits should also not be cooked; it is better to eat them in their natural form or in the form of fresh juice. All kinds of dried fruits (dried apricots, prunes, raisins, apricots, figs, apples, pears) are very useful, rich in vitamins and microelements. Before eating dried fruits, they should be thoroughly rinsed with running water, then filled with hot water and boiled over low heat for disinfection for 1-2 minutes. You can add honey and any juice to your taste to dried fruits. Such a mixture satisfies thirst well, compensates for the lack of minerals and vitamins in the body.

The diet of weightlifters and bodybuilders must include vegetable and fruit juices. Carrot juice contains a large amount of carotene, which activates the activity of the visual analyzer and increases immunity. Carrot juice can be combined well with other vegetable juices (cucumber, pumpkin, beetroot) rich in vitamins and nutrients. Tomato juice satisfies appetite and thirst. During the period of active sports activity, it is recommended to use it in portions of up to 3 glasses a day with the addition of lemon or orange juice. Tomato juice is superior in vitamins to many citrus crops, and also contains potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and iron salts. Fresh tomatoes are recommended to be consumed without heat treatment. 200 g of ripe tomatoes contains the dose of carotene and ascorbic acid required by an athlete-athlete per day. Ripe tomatoes are rich in easily digestible glucose, pectin and organic acids, which help to activate the digestion process and have a neutralizing effect on pathogenic intestinal bacteria.

During the period of intensive regulation of body weight, weightlifters and bodybuilders should eat food in a liquid and liquid state to facilitate the work of the gastrointestinal tract. Such food is all kinds of fruit, vegetable salads and juices, lean first courses, dairy products. For better assimilation, meat, fish and mushrooms must be passed through a meat grinder or chopped in a blender. Nuts are a good source of protein. It has been established that 500 g of shelled walnuts correspond in their nutritional value to 1700 g of beef or 1 liter of milk. The vegetable proteins contained in nuts are considered equivalent to the proteins of meat and milk, however, unlike the mentioned products, they do not contain any harmful substances. When including nuts in the diet of athletes, it should be borne in mind that the body absorbs no more than 150 g of nuts at a time. For complete assimilation of nuts, they must be thoroughly chewed or consumed in a ground form.

Many bodybuilding and weightlifting athletes choose to eat foods that help them gain weight as quickly as possible. However, this method is fundamentally wrong, since the increase in mass should occur only at the expense of the muscles, but not fat, bone tissue and internal organs. The use of natural products and additives, their quality and methods of preparation determine certain consequences of food intake. With the correct use of products and drugs intended for mass gain, it is the muscles that increase in size. Artificial energy supply should compensate for its costs. The intake of calories from fatty foods is more conducive to the accumulation of fat stores than the absorption of proteins and carbohydrates. The reason for the increase in body fat is the easy accumulation of saturated fat in cells. Except that excessive fat intake may not promote growth athletic performance, this can provoke dangerous diseases such as cancer and heart disease. The way out of this situation is a balanced intake of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Protein and carbohydrates contain about half the calories of fat. These calories can also be stored as body fat, but only if consumed indefinitely. With proper nutrition, proteins and carbohydrates help build the necessary muscle and improve overall performance. Critical role in building muscle tissue and the accumulation of fat is played by insulin, with the help of which nutrients are extracted from the blood and supplied to various organs and tissues of the body. You can maintain a constant level of insulin by eating a fractional meal, that is, at short intervals of 2-4 hours. With normal insulin levels in the body, the athlete can maintain a high metabolic rate and a constant supply of energy. A single meal of high calorie counts triggers an insulin burst, after which more calories are available to all body tissues than necessary.

Unused nutrients are stored in the body as fat, so bodybuilders and weightlifters should never consume protein blends or foods high in calories while watching videos. The explosion of insulin in the human body is useful only after active workouts, since the body's ability to absorb nutrients increases significantly within 1 hour after intense physical activity. Growth hormone and insulin levels rise sharply if the athlete takes a protein-carbohydrate mixture immediately after training. The most optimal period for a high-calorie meal is within 1.5 hours after training, and this should be the majority of the calories taken that make up the entire daily diet. In this case, in the absence of parallel absorption of fat in the body, not a single gram of excess fat is added.

Interview with Andrey Viktorovich Repnitsyn, President of the WPC / WPO Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region.

Andrey Viktorovich, for a start, by tradition, a little about yourself.
I was born in the city of Tomsk, on November 23, 1974, at zero hours zero minutes, right on the border of "Scorpio" and "Sagittarius". When I was one and a half years old, my parents moved to Yekaterinburg by distribution. In 1992 he graduated from high school, entered the Ural State Technical University - UPI at the full-time department of the radio engineering faculty. In 1994 he transferred to the evening department of the Faculty of Economics and Management at the enterprise and at the same time went to work. I just wanted to.
The bar was first touched on December 10, 1991. Trained from books by Joe Weider and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I learned about powerlifting only in 2001. In 2002, he performed for the first time at the Sverdlovsk Region Powerlifting Championship, in Alapaevsk, where he immediately fulfilled the standard of a candidate for Master of Sports of Russia. In 2003 he stopped performing due to a serious injury. I wanted to grow from a third-rate to a master in a year and a half, for which I paid.
Since then I have been training for myself. Periodically alternating fitness, yoga, boxing. I love boxing very much, but I try not to abuse it, the age is not the same.
In February 2007, I was appointed Regional Representative of the WPC Powerlifting Federation for the Sverdlovsk Region. Together with mine, two more candidates were considered, one of which was the candidacy of the now deceased Vladimir Korepanov, a sports functionary famous throughout Russia. Nevertheless, Yuri Ustinov gave the position to me.
I am also vice-president of the public organization "Association of Power Sports of the Sverdlovsk Region", Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the adoption of the holiday "All-Russian Day of Power Sports Athletes" - "Day of Power".
At the same time, I participate a little in the political life of our country. I am a member of the Political Council of the Kirov branch of the Party " United Russia», Deputy Secretary of the Political Council and Chairman of the Commission on Youth and Sports Affairs of the same department.

They call you a mega-active functionary. Indeed, according to press releases, the number of events you hold in the Sverdlovsk Region is simply enormous. Although a couple of years ago, practically nothing was heard. What is the secret of such rapid progress?
Yes, indeed, the number and level of tournaments we hold, as well as the number of athletes participating in them, is still growing like an avalanche. In 2007, the first year of my tenure at the WPC of the Sverdlovsk Region, we held only three tournaments. The next six. And only in the first five months of 2009, under the auspices of the WPC, seven competitions were held in the Sverdlovsk region! And three more are planned. A total of ten is possible. It could have been more, but the May monitoring showed that this is still the limit, even more often athletes are simply not able to perform. And as far as I know, no other Russian regional office of powerlifting, of any federation, holds so many tournaments. Nevertheless, the "powerlifting competition market" (if I may say so) in the Sverdlovsk region is close to saturation.
In terms of the number of athletes, the picture is even more rosy. If in 2007, in winter, in our region there were about 30 athletes performing according to the WPC version, and in our first competitions, in June, a little more than 50 took part, today our database has almost 700 (!) Athletes ... And this is just two years! I think by the end of the year we will be able to see a pretty figure of 1000 or so.
In terms of the level of training of athletes, we are also not lagging behind. In our region, in Krasnouralsk, lives the absolute world champion, she is the owner of the title “Woman of the Year in Krasnouralsk 2008”, and just a charming beauty, Marina Medvedeva, an interview with whom can be read on the website of “Iron World”. Our veteran, Gennady Pereladov, has won everything in his age category for a long time in a row.
Our federation does not focus only on powerlifting. We help in organizing Power Extreme tournaments in the Sverdlovsk Region. Strongmen are often former powerlifting athletes and therefore we have a lot in common with them. In this regard, I would like to recall the recently held Team Championship of the city of Lesnoy in "Power Extreme", the ideological inspirer and main organizer of which was the regional representative of the powerlifting federation of the Sverdlovsk region WPC in the city of Lesnoy, Alexander Belyaev. At this tournament, one team, "Bears", consisted entirely of athletes - powerlifters, acting according to the IPF version, the other, "Tigers", mainly from WPC-Schnicks. Friendship won to everyone's satisfaction. The "Bears" team was awarded by the President of the IPF Powerlifting Federation of the Sverdlovsk Region, the "Tigers" team was awarded by me. It turned out very nicely.
The secret of success? I think that there is no one secret. Success comes from many factors. First of all, it is the daily work in the federation even at a time when there are no competitions “on the nose” - just holding tournaments is not enough for successful development. It is also a constant movement forward and a great desire to do it. In no case should the competition be held at the same level as last year! In sports, as in business, there is no concept of stagnation; there is either forward movement or a rollback. A repeat of last year's is a rollback.
A very important factor is the establishment and maintenance of good relations with many people, from government officials at all levels, leading sports officials and ending with ordinary athletes of the lowest level. You need to make friends with everyone in reality, and not only virtually on the Internet, on the forums! A federation that, due to some "principles" or "rules", "scatters" its athletes, is doomed to collapse, regardless of the availability of accreditation and other papers. There are examples of this.
Well, another important factor of success is the selection of a good team. Moreover, it should include not only professionals in their field, but also people close to you in terms of their views on the development of sports.

Last year, our country first heard about the celebration of the "Day of Power". Six months before this, the magazine "Iron World" was the first in Russia to publish an article that such a holiday was introduced by the Organizing Committee, of which you are the chairman. Can you learn more about this endeavor?
The Day of Strength is the All-Russian Day of Athletes of Strength Sports, which appeared by the decision of the Presidium of the Russian Powerlifting Organization WPC in winter 2008. Prior to that, on my initiative, by voting at one of the "power" forums, it was decided that such a holiday should be adopted by all "security officials" and the date of celebration was chosen - the first Sunday in October. I will not dwell on the need for such a holiday, this is done in sufficient detail in the article you mentioned. I will only say that the adoption of the holiday at the state level is not such a pipe dream. Everything is quite real, only it is very stretched in terms of time. I can add that if this happens, it will not be with the current composition of the State Duma.
By the way, for those who don’t know, there is an active discussion on the modernization of the “Day of Power” anthem on the forum of the Iron World website. One version already exists and it was even performed in the fall of 2008, during the first celebration of the "Day of Power". Now there is a need to expand this creation. Those interested can join the discussion.

Tell us about the joint project of the two federations: the Bench Press Tournament in memory of V. Koblov and D. Kurbanov.
This is a project unique in its nature, something like this has never happened in the world. Each individual competition, duel or game, in any sport, is held under the auspices of one federation. In our case, the competition was held simultaneously under the auspices of two powerlifting federations IPF and WPC. Slightly deviating from the topic, I will say that the IPF federation is accredited by Rossport and its relations with the rest of the federations, associations and powerlifting organizations in Russia previously left much to be desired. But in 2008 there was crucial moment: at the flagship competition of our federation, the Golden Tiger - II Multitournament, a historic meeting of the Presidents of these two leading powerlifting federations, Gennady Ivanovich Khodosevich and Yuri Vladimirovich Ustinov, took place, where it was decided to “bury the hatchet”. Moreover, Gennady Ivanovich enthusiastically welcomed our aforementioned initiative to host the "All-Russian Day of Strength Sports Athletes". And in 2009, under the auspices of the IPF, three tournaments dedicated to the "Day of Power" will be held in Russia at once.
Let's go back to the tournament. Often, athletes - members of one federation are prohibited from competing in competitions of other federations, under the threat of lifelong disqualification. There are tournaments that are organized “outside of all federations”, but even they cannot guarantee athletes full protection from disqualification. In support of the peace agreements reached, as well as with the support of the head of the local IPF branch, Svetlana Paltseva, we decided to hold a tournament simultaneously in two federations at once, in order to firmly guarantee all athletes their safety. sports career... And to dedicate this tournament to the memory of people who are no longer with us, but who at one time did a lot for the development of powerlifting in the Urals: the former head of IPF in the region Vladimir Koblov, and former coach the Uralmash powerlifting team, Dmitry Kurbanov.
Not a single tournament caused so many contradictions, even before it began, in my memory. Some athletes and functionaries persistently asked to hold it, by all means. Others mercilessly criticized the unfinished business. Numerous paper "troubles" until the very last moment inspired doubts about the success of the planned event. Nevertheless, the competition went very smoothly and with great success. 80 athletes from both federations, from five regions, including Moscow, took part in them at once. By the way, the Deputy Minister was present at the grand opening physical culture, sports and tourism of the Sverdlovsk region, Andrey Yuryevich Salov, thereby confirming the seriousness of this undertaking.

Since we have already mentioned the Golden Tiger Multitournament, tell us what it is and, as they say, with what it is eaten?
Series of Multitournaments "Golden Tiger" - image tournaments of our federation. They are aimed at promoting "power" sports among the general population, primarily among young people. It is no secret that a certain part of the younger generation considers sports to be an unfashionable activity. Promote among them healthy image life by traditional methods (sports days, mass races, etc.), to put it mildly, ineffective. The Golden Tiger Festival contains just those sports that can change the opinion of this group of young people regarding sports: powerlifting, bodybuilding, karate, thai boxing, hand-to-hand combat, arm wrestling, judo, etc., there are fourteen kinds of sports and two contests, one of which is a beauty contest among short girls. Where, without the beautiful half of humanity, then?
I came up with the name “Golden Tiger” in the summer of 2007, when the need arose for the first time to create a landmark tournament in the Sverdlovsk region. "Tiger" - because I was born in the year of the Tiger, and "Golden" is what every athlete aspires to in any sport, to "gold", gold medals.
As you know, the United States of America has hosted the Arnold Sports Festival for over twenty years, a tournament that also includes numerous popular sports. Of course, Schwarzenegger's brainchild is an order of magnitude higher in level than our "Golden Tiger". But we are only three years old and we are not standing still, we try to do each subsequent Multitournament better, wider, larger, better than the previous ones. Today we have an excellent team of professional organizers, with a positive and creative mindset, capable of working as independent units. They are Roman Dolgiy, Marina Medvedeva, Dmitry Murzin, Vasily Zhilyakov, Denis Maslakov, Konstantin Tolkachev, Anatoly Sirenko, Alexander Ponomarev, Anton Lunin, Yuri Gartung, Tatyana Repnitsyna, Dmitry Chertushkin, Alexey Brednev, Anastasia Ladygina, Sergey Ladyzhnikov, Natalia Dalya Ospanov, Marina Malygina and many, many others. Some of them are active titled athletes, masters of sports international class, champions and record holders of Russia, Europe and even absolute champions the world! We are also actively supported by the President of the Eurasian Powerlifting Federation Yuri Ustinov, the President of the Uralstrong Association Dmitry Kononets, and a number of other high-ranking sports functionaries. For a long time I have not decided anything on my own, all proposals are submitted, discussed and adopted at the meetings of the Organizing Committee by simple open vote, and even if I vote “against”, when everyone is “for”, then I submit to the will of the majority. We have wonderful, fruitful relationships with almost all regional representatives sports federations many sports, we are actively supported by the Kirovsky District Administration, the Yekaterinburg City Administration, the Regional Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the City Duma represented by its Chairman, Evgeny Nikolaevich Porunov, the House of Representatives of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region, the leading political party "United Russia". In the end, we are supported by our families, workmates, friends, which is also important. With this "baggage", the prospects for the development of all our projects, including the Multitournament "Golden Tiger", I consider very, very bright. And God help us.

The interview was prepared by Nikolay Koltakov, "Iron World" magazine
